(WESTMINSTER, Md.) – The Wilson women's volleyball team was back in action as it took on McDaniel in a non-conference affair on Tuesday evening. The Phoenix started off well but ended up falling in three sets to the Green Terror.
The Basics
Scores: Wilson 0, McDaniel 3 (25-16, 25-11, 26-24)
Venue: Gill Center
Records: Wilson 0-8, McDaniel 4-4
How It Happened
- The Phoenix had the attack in motion early as kills from Kaylee Bastistig (FY, Greencastle, Pa.), Alexis Landis (FY, Parkesburg, Pa.), and Allyson Garcelon (Sr., Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) along with an Addie Hebert (Jr., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) ace helped the visitors take an 8-5 lead. After McDaniel tied it with the next three points, Wilson went on a 5-0 run as Garcelon laid down another pair of kills along with an ace. Unfortunately the Green Terror flipped a switch and went on a 17-3 run to take the first set.
- The hosts fed off that momentum and raced out to a 9-2 lead in the second. Wilson attempted to get back into contention as Garcelon scored a kill followed by two from Abby Moreland (Jr., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) to get back within four. That was the closest the Phoenix could get though as McDaniel went on another long run to go up 2-0.
- McDaniel miscues benefited the Blue and White as four errors gave them an early 4-1 advantage. The Green Terror answered with the next four, but the Phoenix didn't let them get away. Alison Daniels (So., Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) and Ashlynn Babbitt (FY, Edenton, N.C. / John A. Holmes) doubled up for a block to tie the frame at 8-all. Later in the set, Landis and Moreland sparked a rally with back-to-back kills while more errors by the Green Terror allowed for the teams to be even at 22-all. Kills from Michaela Windisch (Jr., Westminster, Md. / Catoctin) and Moreland kept Wilson tied at 24 before McDaniel scored the next two to take the match.
Inside The Numbers
- Moreland hit double-figures for the third consecutive match with a match-best 10 kills on 32 attempts, her most in a three-set contest so far this season.
- Hebert paced the back row defensively with 12 digs to lead the team, putting her over the century mark for the season. She is currently 10th in the conference with 3.58 digs per set.
- McDaniel featured a balanced attack led by Kailey Young who equaled Moreland with 10 kills.
