(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – A Mary Baldwin goal midway through the first half was the lone score of the game as Wilson fell in its home opener on Sunday afternoon. The Phoenix did well outside of that defensively as they turned away 12 other attempts with five saves by
Logan Neves (Jr., Fredericksburg, Pa. / Colonial Forge) to keep the Blue and White in the game.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 0, Mary Baldwin 1
Venue: Kris's Meadow
Records: Wilson 0-2, Mary Baldwin 1-1
How It Happened
- MBU had the early advantage with six shots in the opening 23 minutes. Neves was able to make a pair of saves during that stretch, but unfortunately the Fighting Squirrels were able to break through when Edward Headley found Brandon Murphy from the left side.
- Wilson had a great chance to equalize as Jace Williams (Jr., Chesapeake, Va. / Hickory) was able to get a couple of great looks near the end of the first half. The first attempt to the bottom right side was saved and bounced back out for a second take that went high. Liam Yeatman (Sr., Roseland, Va. / Phoenixville) had another shot midway through the second, but that went wide left.
Inside The Numbers
- Shots favored the Squirrels by a 13-3 margin overall and 6-1 difference in shots on goal.
- Neves recorded at least five saves in a game for the 14th time in his career.
- Wilson leads the all-time series with Mary Baldwin 2-1.
