(FREDERICK, Md.) – The Wilson men's soccer team held its own for the first half in Friday's season opener against Hood with a tie game going into the half. Things turned in favor of the Blazers in the second half, however, as the hosts pulled away to the victory.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 1, Hood 6
Venue: Thomas Athletic Field
Records: Wilson 0-1, Hood 1-0
How It Happened
- Wilson struck first as Jace Williams (Jr., Chesapeake, Va. / Hickory) had a heads-up play to score his eighth career goal after he took advantage of a miscue by the Blazers. After receiving a pass from Eric Arbogast (Jr., Duncansville, Pa. / Hollidaysburg), Williams went on the attack where he was closed in on by three defenders. Two of them collided in the box leaving a loose ball situation and Williams took advantage of it by regaining control and crossing over the goalkeeper with a shot to the lower left 90.
- The Phoenix couldn't celebrate too much as Hood was able to pull even two minutes later with a free kick by Cristian Topovich to the top right corner from around 30 yards out.
- The score remained notched at 1-1 through the break until the Blazers jumped ahead on the go-ahead goal by James Knowlton on an assist from Topovich in the 60th minute. Topovich added another goal three minutes later and Hood kept the momentum building from there with two more goals in the following six minutes. The hosts added another score in the 85th.
