(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – The Wilson women's lacrosse team hosted Marywood for the first game at Kris's Meadow this season on a warm Wednesday afternoon.
Kaelyn Goff (So., Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) had an impressive game defensively to highlight the day for the Phoenix, but the Pacers' attack was too much as the visitors took home the victory.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 5, Marywood 16
Venue: Kris's Meadow
Records: Wilson 0-9, Marywood 5-4
How It Happened
- Marywood jumped out to an early lead by scoring the opening five goals through the first nine minutes. Wilson eventually got on the board late in the frame as a penalty on the Pacers left the Phoenix with a scoring chance. Alaina Marek (So., Bealeton, Va. / Liberty) made it count as she took the feed from Emily Young (Sr., Fairfax, Va. / Chantilly) with 2:44 left in the quarter.
- The second quarter played similar to the first as the Pacers went on a run with four goals to make it a 9-1 game. After the last of those scores, Sage Lague (Sr., Fairplay, Md. / Goretti) won the ensuing draw control and the Blue and White were able to turn that into a second goal as Young found Marek once again to make it 9-2 at the break.
- Free positions were the trend to start the second half. An early foul left the Pacers with a chance from eight meters which they scored on, but Sadie Fike (So., McClure, Pa. / Mifflin County) was able to add one herself from the free position mark. Lague added another from eight meters later in the frame. The Pacers kept momentum, however, with two goals in the final moments of the third and two early in the fourth. Paige Ney (Jr., Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) was able to find the back of the net once more for the Phoenix to set up the final score.
Inside The Numbers
- Despite the final score, Goff put together an impressive day between the pipes with a career-high 20 saves putting her over 50% for the day. She also led the team in ground balls with five and caused two Marywood turnovers as well.
- Bianca Sommers (Sr., Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) added four ground balls for the Phoenix. Riley Lemay (So., Saugerties, N.Y. / Saugerties) was also busy on the defensive end with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Young picked up a trio of ground balls as well while forcing two Pacer changes of possession.
