(READING, Pa.) – Sage Lague (Fairplay, Md. / Goretti) recorded a hat trick to lead Wilson's offense, but it wasn't enough to overcome a high-octane Albright squad in women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Phoenix had their best start of the season and trailed by three midway through the second before the Lions went on a roll to take control of the game.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 9, Albright 26
Venue: Shirk Stadium
Records: Wilson 0-8, Albright 3-3
How It Happened
- After Albright opened up a 3-0 lead, Sadie Fike (So., McClure, Pa. / Mifflin County) got the Blue and White on the board with 9:16 to go in the opening frame. The Lions added two more before Alyvia Henneman (So., Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) found the back of the net. Albright answered with a quick win on the draw and ensuing goal, but Lague was able to score her first with Henneman providing the assist on a player-up advantage. The Lions added another pair to take an 8-3 lead into the second.
- The Lions scored the first in the second before the Phoenix made a strong charge sparked by Lague after she won the ensuing draw control which resulted in a goal by Henneman. Lague remained a force on the draw and won the next one which turned into a Fike score. Sure enough, Lague came away with yet another draw control, and after a penalty on the Lions, Young took advantage of the power play and scored to make it 9-6 with 10:51 to go in the half.
- Albright started to take control by way of a 12-0 run that stretched well into the third quarter. Ellisa Gamby-Mickey (So., Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) broke the drought while Lague added another pair of goals to complete the hat trick, but the deficit was too much to overcome for the Phoenix.
Inside The Numbers
- Lague's hattie was her second of the season after she posted four at Westminster at the start of the month. She was exception on draw controls where she picked up 11 of them, one shy of her career-high set against Cedar Crest during her first season.
- Fike and Gamby-Mickey both added four draw controls each. For Fike, it was a new career-high.
- Riley Lemay (So., Saugerties, N.Y. / Saugerties) continues to be a bright spot on defense where she led the team with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
