Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | By Logan Smith

Blue Jays Too Much For Phoenix

(SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.) – The Wilson women's lacrosse team hosted Elizabethtown in a non-conference clash just up state Route 11 on Monday afternoon. The Phoenix were able to score early to stay square with the Blue Jays temporarily, but the visitors had too much firepower and handed Wilson the defeat.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 2, Elizabethtown 24

Venue: Robb Sports Complex

Records: Wilson 0-6, Elizabethtown 4-1

How It Happened
  • The Blue Jays struck first as Lauren Puntanen won the draw which eventually turned into a goal by Ella Scholes 69 seconds into the contest. Wilson was able to answer as Alaina Marek (So., Bealeton, Va. / Liberty) found Alyvia Henneman (So., Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) just 45 seconds later to tie the game.
  • Unfortunately for the Phoenix, the Blue Jays took off from there with an explosive offense while shutting down Wilson defensively. The Phoenix did manage to score another goal in the third quarter as Marek found an open Sadie Fike (So., McClure, Pa. / Mifflin County) for the score. Etown went on to score the final five goals of the game.
Inside The Numbers
  • Sage Lague (Sr., Fairplay, Md. / Goretti) paced the team in the circle with six draw controls.
  • Kaelyn Goff (So., Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) was tested quite a bit as she faced 43 shots overall. While the Blue Jays did find the back of the net, she still came away with a season-best 16 saves on the day.
Up Next
Wilson will be back at Shippensburg to take on Goucher College on Wednesday. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
