Conference Leader St. Mary's Too Much For Phoenix

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Chelcie Forrester (Jr., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg / WVU Potomac State) and Allie Cullison (Sr., Westminster, Md. / Winters Mill) both scored in double-figures, but it wasn't enough as Wilson was downed by St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon. The Phoenix kept close at the start before the Seahawks showed why they're at the top of the United East standings and pulled away.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 47, St. Mary's 83

Venue: O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena

Records: Wilson 7-14, 6-6 UE; St. Mary's 13-7, 10-1 UE

How It Happened
  • Wilson got the upper hand early by lighting up the scoreboard first on a Forrester layup on a dish from Lae Black (Jr., Laurel, Md. / Meade / Bluefield State). The Phoenix stayed in front by staving off the hosts on their next three possessions, but the Seahawks eventually tied it on a layup to start a 7-0 run. A Chloe Irving (FY, Martinsburg, W.Va. / Martinsburg) layup late kept Wilson within five, however St. Mary's closed the frame with a pair of free throws to make the score 23-16.
  • After a Seahawks layup opened the second, Forrester had back-to-back trips to the line and made all four free throws to cut the gap back to five. Unfortunately it was the closest Wilson could get the rest of the way. St. Mary's came back with an old-fashioned 3-point play, and while Cullison countered with a layup, the Seahawks took control with a 12-0 run. They led by double-digits the rest of the way.
Inside The Numbers
  • Forrester finished the day with 12 points, half of which came from the foul line where she was 6-for-7. She also led the team along with Irving with six rebounds.
  • Cullison was right behind her offensively with 11 points after she was 5-for-10 from the field with a 3-pointer.
  • The Seahawks were paced by Olivia Liszt who recorded a double-double. She scored 20 points on a 6-for-11 day from the field with a pair of treys. She also had a game-high 12 rebounds.
  • Marley Saunders added 17 points and Samantha Blaylock scored 10 for the hosts.
