How It Happpened
- The Blue and White got offto a great start with Jaylin Davis (Sr., Hampton, Va. / Kecoughtan / Lynchburg) providing a momentum boost by way of a four-point play after he made the and-one free throw following a foul on a 3-pointer. That made the score 12-5 just over four minutes into the contest. Another triple, this time from Tobias Reese (So., Mansfield, Texas / St. Elizabeth (Del.)) put the Phoenix up eight with 8:26 to go in the half. Marywood eventually rallied and cut the deficit to two after a pair of Joe Macciocco free throws. Wilson maintained the lead, however, used free throw shooting to take a 36-30 lead into the locker room at the break.
- The Pacers used a 7-0 run to take the lead midway through the second half. A pair of Andrew Quinn free throws capped the stretch to make it 47-46. The lead didn't last long as Jalen Pierce (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Collegiate / Millersville) was able to immediately answer and put Wilson back up with a layup. Following a Macciocco free throw and a layup by Quinn, Wilson answered in a big way as Pierce drained a 3-pointer from the left corner and was fouled on the play. The and-one free throw was good and send the Phoenix on a 10-0 run, the largest of the game. Bowie added a pair of free throws and added a layup before Winston Raford (Jr., Woodbridge, Va. / Forest Park) capped with a mid-range jumper.
- After Marywood got back within five, a Pierce layup along with three Bowie free throws put Wilson back in front bac double-digits. The largest lead of the contest came after a layup by Armani Jones (Sr., Chicago, Ill. / Christ The King / Bryant and Stratton) made it 74-61 with 2:43 to go. The Phoenix maintained a double-digit lead until the Pacers scored a couple of baskets in the final three seconds to set up the final score.
