Fords Too Much For Phoenix

(HAVERFORD, Pa.) – Leah Lauabach (So., Marietta, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic) led Wilson with 15 points, but it wasn't enough as the Phoenix fell on the road at Haverford Tuesday evening. Although the Blue and White outscored the Fords in the second half, the hosts were able to jump out to a big lead thanks to a strong defensive effort in the first and second quarters.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 45, Haverford 62

Venue: Gooding '84 Gymnasium

Records: Wilson 4-3, 0-0 United East; Haverford 4-1, 0-0 Centennial

How It Happened
  • The Fords were revved up from the start and jumped out to a 12-0 lead thanks to hot outside shooting with four 3-pointer. Chelcie Forrester (Sr., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) gave the Phoenix a boost as she scored four of the next five, but Haverford countered with another pair of triples to close the frame on a 12-4 run. While neither team shot well in the second, the Fords were able to extend their lead by seven.
  • Wilson was able to regroup and stay with the Fords in the third quarter. While the Phoenix had a balanced attack started to shoot better from the field than their counterparts, rebounding still favored Haverford. Laubach heated up in the fourth quarter as she went 3-for-4 with a pair of 3-pointers. Jewels Torres (Sr., York, Pa. / West York) added four of her nine in the frame.
Inside The Numbers
  • Laubach's strong fourth quarter gave her 10 points in the half and 15 total for the night.
  • Forrester led the Phoenix in rebounds with eight caroms.
  • Haverford benefited from the outside as it made 10 3-pointers on the night. Five of them came from Caroline Orza who led all players with 24 points. She was the only Ford in double-figures.
  • Rebounds were fairly close with Haverford holding a 46-41 advantage.
