Women's Hoops Tripped Up At Mount Aloysius

(CRESSON, Pa.) – Lae Black (Sr., Laurel, Md. / Meade / Bluefield State) scored a game-high 14 points and Jewels Torres (Sr., Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro) added a dozen more, but it wasn't enough as Wilson fell to Mount Aloysius on Monday. While the Phoenix closed the first quarter an impressive run, the Mounties opened with a big lead and used the second quarter to pull away.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 58, Mount Aloysius 79

Venue: Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center

Records: Wilson 4-4, 0-0 United East; Mount Aloysius 1-4, 0-0 AMCC

How It Happened
  • Mount Aloysius jumped out to an early lead with a 12-0 run over the first 3:10. Both teams exchanged free throws before Leah Laubach (So., Marietta, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic) drained a 3-pointer on a dish from Torres. Back-to-back treys by Mackenzie Caldwell-Degnon (Jr., Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) and Torres later cut the deficit down to 17-14.
  • Black continued to give the Phoenix a strong push forward in second quarter as she kept them within two possessions after she converted an and-one free throw following a tip-in. Unfortunately for Wilson, the Mounties answered with a pair of 3-pointers to go up a dozen. At halftime, Mount Alyosius led by 14 points.
  • Wilson started the second half strong as a 10-4 run to get back within eight after a pair of Black foul shots made it 39-31. The momentum was short-lived as the hosts went on an 8-0 run to go back up by 16. The Phoenix were unable to get any closer the rest of the way.
Inside The Numbers
  • Black finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, six of which were on the offensive end. She added a block and a steal as well.
  • Torres chalked up a dozen markers to go with five assists and three steals.
  • Laubach was a point shy of double figures and pulled down seven rebounds.
  • Rebounds were relatively even with the Mounties holding a 39-36 lead.
  • Mount Aloysius was paced by four players in double-figures with Annalyn Isaacs leading the way with 14 points. Molly Kosmack had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
