How It Happened
- Defense was on display early as the Phoenix forced two steals in the opening minute as Chelsea Forrester (Sr., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg / WVU Potomac State) and Becca Cordell (Sr., Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro) made swipes with the latter leading to a fast break layup by Mackenzie Caldwell-Degnon (Jr., Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) for the opening points of the game. Trinity Washington answered with a 3-pointer, but it was the only advantage the visitors had as the Phoenix came back with a 22-4 run that stretched into the second quarter. During that time, Wilson distributed the ball well with eight different players.
- The Phoenix just got stronger in the second quarter. Lae Black (Sr., Laurel, Md. / Meade / Bluefield State) heated things up as she went 3-for-5 in the frame to score seven of her nine points. On the opposite end the defense shut down any momentum tried to generate as they went 2-for-16 and were limited to just five points to give Wilson a 40-12 lead at halftime. The Phoenix kept it locked down in the third and limited Trinity to just four points with one made field goal.
- The balanced offense continued throughout the game. In the third quarter, five players contributed to the 17 points scored while six combined for the 15 in the fourth as the Phoenix cruised to the victory.
