Lions Too Much For Phoenix On Senior Day

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – The penultimate game of the regular season saw Wilson fall to Penn State Harrisburg in a pivotal United East matchup on Wilson Weekend Saturday. The Phoenix held a high-powered Lions squad to just one goal in the first half, but the visitors were able to put in back-to-back goals in the third quarter to pull away.

It was also Senior Day for the Blue and White with Jordan Blizzard (Westminster, Md. / Francis Scott Key), Payton Kendall (McConnellsburg, Pa. / Forbes Road), Mia Brunet (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro), and Lizzie Landon (West Grove, Pa. / Avon Grove) all honored following the game.

How It Happened
  • Penn State Harrisburg had an early advantage with four shots in the first six minutes, but the Phoenix were able to divert the two on target with a defensive save by Kendall and a traditional one by Erin Sullivan (So., Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley). Wilson had a couple of chances of its own in the first quarter as well. Kate Seymour (Jr., Churchton, Md. / Southern) gave the Phoenix their first shot which was blocked midway through. Lenoree Hoke (Jr., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) later took one on target, but it was saved by Lions' keeper Macenzie Mulholand.
  • The Lions got on the board early in the second as Ami Mattingly scored just 1:42 into the period. Wilson had a solid opportunity to pull even late in the period as Seymour had an open look which was saved by Mulholand once again.
  • Harrisburg broke the game open in the third quarter with a pair of goals scored in a stretch of 1:37. The Lions had a shot that was saved by Sullivan, but the rebound bounced back for Charlotte Grove for the put-back. After the restart, Bailey Rucker found Sadie Cook for the 3-0 lead. The visitors added an insurance goal 2:42 into the fourth.
Inside The Numbers
  • Harrisburg controlled the shot chart 20-8 overall and 15-5 in shots on goal.
  • Sullivan had her second-highest save total of the season with nine.
  • Kendall had two defensive saves to give her four in the past three games.
  • Penalty corners favored the Phoenix slightly by a 5-4 advantage.
