How It Happened
  • The start of the match saw back-and-forth action with the Phoenix staying with the Seahawks. After the hosts went up 8-4, Wilson jumped back into contention with the next three points with a pair of Allyson Garcelon (Sr., Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) aces. Later in the set the Phoenix scored five of six with a Garcelon and Alexis Landis (FY, Parkesburg, Pa. / Octorara) block tying the set at 13-all before a Masalyna Miller (FY, Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle-Antrim) ace put the Blue and White up by one. Kills from Garcelon and Abby Moreland (Jr., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) helped keep the Phoenix in front as late as 16-15 before St. Mary's went on a 10-1 run to take the set.
  • The Seahawks' surge continued for the rest of the night. The second set started with St. Mary's opening up a 7-1 lead. Wilson attempted to battle back into contention with a pair of Moreland kills to cut the deficit to three before SMCM went on another run to go up 16-5 and eventually took the game by 12. That led to a powerful start in the third for the hosts who took the sweep.
Inside The Numbers
  • Moreland led the team with seven kills.
  • Defensively Michaela Windisch (Jr., Westminster, Md. / Catoctin) paced the Phoenix with 11 digs.
  • Maya Mauro led the Seahawks with 13 kills.
