(LANCASTER, Pa.) – A bid to the 2025 United East Championship field hockey tournament was clinched as Wilson defeated Lancaster Bible on the road Tuesday afternoon. The Phoenix used a balanced attack to take a 4-0 lead in first half and held off the charge by the Chargers late in the second quarter to secure the win.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 5, Lancaster Bible 2
Venue: Funk Field at Herr Stadium
Records: Wilson 5-7, 2-0 UE; Lancaster Bible 2-9, 0-2 UE
How It Happened
- After a defensive stalemate for the opening 10 minutes of the game, the scoring flood gates opened with a goal by Kate Seymour (Jr., Churchton, Md. / Southern) after receiving the assist from Lizzie Landon (Sr., West Grove, Pa. / Avon Grove). It didn't take long for the Phoenix to build upon that as Finley Vandevander (So., Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) made it 2-0 just 2:42 later with Seymour providing the helper.
- That momentum carried into the second quarter and Wilson was able to pad its lead as Lenoree Hoke (Jr., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) found the back of the cage with Madison Hamrick (So., Tawneytown, Md. / Francis Scott Key) dishing the pass 4:06 into the frame. Madison's sister Haley Hamrick (So., Tawneytown, Md. / Union Bridge) followed up just over a minute later with a goal to make it 4-0.
- While it appeared to be smooth sailing for the Blue and White, LBC had other things in mind and rallied late in the half behind Rebekah Hoover. She found put the Chargers on the scoreboard with 2:34 to go until the half and added another goal just 1:31 later to make it a 4-2 contest at the break.
- The Phoenix were able to regroup in the second half and the defense locked down Lancaster Bible the rest of the way. The offense also picked up once again and fired off six shots in the third, but only one was on goal. Eventually persistence paid off as Seymour scored her second of the day just after the start of the fourth to set up the final score.
