Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | By Logan Smith

Men's Soccer Succumbs To McDaniel

(WESTMINSTER, Md.) – A midweek clash with McDaniel didn't go as Wilson had hoped as the Phoenix dropped their second contest of the season. The Green Terror got off to a fast start and forced the Blue and White to play from behind for a bulk of the game.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 0, McDaniel 4

Venue: MC Soccer Complex

Records: Wilson 0-3, McDaniel 1-1

How It Happened
  • The hosts wasted little time putting the pressure on the Phoenix as they were called offsides just 3:32 into the contest. Once regaining possession, the Green Terror made their first shot count as Charlie Olson headed it inside the left post on a cross from Jack Guerrera in the sixth minute. Just 80 seconds later, Olson assisted Parks Tolton to make it 2-0 McDaniel.
  • Tyler Cottone (So., Milford, Pa. / Delaware Valley) eventually got Wilson's first shot off in the 19th minute with it going wide left. Seven minutes later Luis Jiminez (So., Carabobo, Venezuela / Taylor Allderdice) put one on goal, but it was saved by Tate Roth.
  • The second half started in a similar manner to the first with McDaniel putting the pressure on out of the gate and resulted in an AJ Nordone goal in the 48th minute. After Chris Natale (FY, Mt. Airy, Md. / Linganore) took a shot that was saved in the 61st minute, the Green Terror countered which resulted in the final goal of the game.
Inside The Numbers
  • McDaniel led the shot count 19-7. Shots on goal were much closer with McDaniel also leading that category 4-2.
  • Corner kicks favored the Green Terror by an 8-4 count.
  • Six players combined for the seven shots taken by the Phoenix. Jiminez was responsible for taking two of them.
