(MEADVILLE, Pa.) – The Wilson field hockey team moved its win streak to five games as it shutout Allegheny on Sunday afternoon.
Kate Seymour (So., Churchton, Md. / Southern) and
Brea Kelso (Sr., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) both provided goals in the victory while
Erin Sullivan (FY, Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) recorded her fourth clean sheet of the season.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 2, Allegheny 0
Venue: Robertson Blue Turf
Records: Wilson 5-1, 0-0 UE; Allegheny 1-7, 1-0 NCAC
How It Happened
- Wilson controlled the pace of play from the start as Seymour took a shot on goal just 60 seconds into the contest. The Gators were able to respond with a shot of their own with Sullivan tallying her first save of the day. Wilson had four more cracks at the cage, but none found the mark with Gators netminder Rowan O'Toole making saves on two of them.
- The Phoenix kept the offensive fire burning in the second quarter with a flurry of shots at the start. After Lizzie Landon (Jr., West Grove, Pa. / Avon Grove) had her first attempt save, Seymour had a few more chances. The first went wide, and a minute later a second take was saved, but the rebound came back to her which allowed the third time to be the charm for a 1-0 lead 2:38 into the frame.
- The score remained there through halftime. In the second half Wilson kept the pedal to the metal and outshot the hosts 10-0 in the period. A penalty corner eventually set up the second goal 5:34 into the third with Landon setting up Kelso. Landon received the insert and promptly passed it to Kelso on the left wing who had a clear shot and zipped it between a defender on the near post and the goalie.
- The Blue and White remained largely in control of possession the rest of the way. Allegheny was only able to get one more shot off in the contest which resulted in another save by Sullivan.
Inside The Numbers
- Both Seymour and Kelso have scored in each of the past two games. For Seymour, it was also her fourth goal of the season.
- Landon's helper was her fourth of the season. She has now recorded six points in the last five games.
- Wilson outshot Allegheny by an incredible 28-5 margin overall. Shots on goal were also heavily in favor of the Phoenix 15-4.
- As a result, corners were also strongly associated with Wilson with a 10-3 count going to the Phoenix.
- This is the first five-game win streak for the Phoenix since they won nine consecutive to close out the regular season and win their two conference playoff games in 2022.
