(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – The Wilson's men's soccer team fell to a strong Eastern Mennonite squad in non-conference action on a warm Saturday afternoon. The Royals got off to a fast start with an early goal and the Phoenix weren't able to recover as the visitors got stronger as the game progressed.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 0, Eastern Mennonite 3
Venue: Kris's Meadow
Records: Wilson 1-5, Eastern Mennonite 3-2-1
How It Happened
- After early shot attempts by both teams in the opening minutes, Eastern Mennonite found the back of the net in the 10th minute on a free kick from 20 yards out. Matthew Alredge took the kick from the left side and goalkeeper Logan Neves (So., Fredericksburg, Va. / Colonial Forge) was able to get a hand on it, but it barely squeezed inside the upper left 90 for the score.
- The Royals made a push at the end of the first with four shots, one of which went off the woodwork, but the Phoenix were able to keep them out of the net through the break. In the second, Jordan DeVincent (So., Eldersburg, Md. / Liberty) and Bryson Curtis (So., Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) got off early shots, but neither found the back of the net.
- In the 57th minute EMU was able to add a second goal with Arledge assisting Kaden Schrock on a corner kick. It was knocked back into play by the Phoenix defense after Schrock's header, but deemed to have already crossed the goal line for the score. Josiah King added an insurance goal in the 82nd to set up the final score.
