Mulholland Lifts Phoenix to Second Half Win

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – The Wilson men's soccer team secured a solid comeback victory against Pitt Greensburg in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon. After trailing early, the Phoenix rallied to score three unanswered goals and overpowered their opponents in the second half.

How It Happened
  • Pitt Greensburg struck first in the 26th minute when Leyton Takac scored off an assist from Cole Kleger. Wilson responded quickly as Brian Mulholland (Jr., Oracle , Ariz. / Canyon del Oro) equalized for the Phoenix just seven minutes later as he found the back of the net going into halftime.
  • The second half saw Wilson assert control. In the 48th minute, Mulholland struck again, this time with an assist from Jorge Cortez (Sr., Columbia, Tenn. / Spring Hill) to give the Phoenix a 2-1 lead. The Phoenix kept the pressure on and extended their advantage in the 55th minute as Jordan DeVincent (So., Eldersburg, Md. / Liberty) scored the final goal of the game to make it 3-1 in favor of Wilson.
  • Despite several offensive pushes from Pitt Greensburg which included a late corner kick opportunity, Wilson's defense held firm with goalkeeper Logan Neves (So., Fredericksburg, Va. / Colonial Forge) making key saves to secure the victory.

  • Wilson led the match in shots with 11 total attempts, seven of which were on target. Pitt Greensburg had eight shots with three on goal.
  • Mulholland's goals were his first and second of the season. It's also his second multiple-goal game after he scored a hat trick in last season's win against Mary Baldwin.
  • DeVincent's goal was the first of his career.
  • Pitt Greensburg held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks during the first half, but was unable to convert those chances into goals.
  • Neves finished with two saves on the day to help preserve the win for Wilson.
