The Basics
Score: Wilson 0, Wittenberg 2
Venue: Wilson Hockey Field
Records: Wilson 1-1, Wittenberg 2-0
How It Happened
- Both defenses were strong in the opening frame as only two shots were allowed. Both belonged to the Blue and White as Jill Ahlgren (Sr., Mercersburg, Pa. / Mercersburg) and Kate Seymour (So., Churchton, Md. / Southern) were both able to get attempts, but both were saved by Caitlyn Archdeacon. Seymour was able to get another shot off near the start of the second which also resulted in a save.
- The turning point of the game came midway through the period as the Tigers put pressure on the Wilson back line which resulted in three penalty corners. The Phoenix were unscathed by the first, but Wittenberg was able to score on the second as Lauren Neutzling took advantage of of a loose ball in front of the cage. Just over a minute later, another corner resulted in a score by Lucy Ripepi.
- The Phoenix looked to answer later in the frame with Seymour leading the charge. She was able to get three shots off with Hannah Aker (Sr., Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) following with another one, but only two were on target with both saved. Wilson kept the pressure on with 10 second half shots evenly split between quarters, but couldn't cut into the deficit.
Inside The Numbers
- Seymour led the attack with nine shots with seven on target. Haley Hamrick (FY, Taneytown, Md. / Union Bridge) added a pair on goal in her home debut.
- Erin Sullivan (FY, Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) made a pair of saves in goal for the Phoenix.
- Of the 17 total shots by Wilson, 13 were on goal. It's the fifth time in the last seven games dating back to last season the Phoenix have hit double figures in shots on goal.
