Phoenix Fall To Falcons

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – A strong Messiah squad proved to be too much for Wilson as the two gathered for a non-conference contest on the corner of Poplar and Vine on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. It appeared that it would be a slugfest after the first inning as the Phoenix took a 3-2 lead into the second inning, but their bats cooled off while those of the Falcons remained hot.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 3, Messiah 15

Venue: Henninger Field

Records: Wilson 14-8, Messiah 22-6

How It Happened
  • The Falcons opened up the scoring with a long ball over the left field fence and added a second run three batters later on a base hit through the left side. Wilson was able to answer in the bottom of the frame to take the lead on four hits and a pair of walks. Haden Hoff (Sr., Westminster, Md. / Westminster) led off with a base on balls and eventually scored on a Jordan McKenzie (Sr., White Plains, Md. / North Point) single to center field. Later in the inning Tyler Smith (FY, Crofton, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) singled to right center to score Jordan Daphney (Jr., Countryside, Fla. / Countryside) to tie the game. One batter later Tyler Gibbons (FY, Forrest Hill, Md. / Calvert Hall) sent one back up the middle to bring in Kodi Deskins (FY, Tampa, Fla. / Clearwater Central Catholic).
  • The lead didn't last long as Messiah led off the second with another solo home run. The Falcons later went in front with three runs in the third. They went on to score in four the remaining six innings en route to the win.
Inside The Numbers
  • McKenzie's RBI was his 25th of the season.
  • Daphney stole a base for the third consecutive game. He now has eight on the season.
  • Middlebrooks' lone hit of the game was a double. It was his 10th extra-base hit of the season, eight of which have been doubles.
