Phoenix Falls To Harrisburg In Baseball Action

(HARRISBURG, Pa.) – The second meeting between Wilson and Penn State Harrisburg saw both teams battle before the hosts pulled away late in the game. Harrisburg's offense eventually gave it the lead in the sixth before the Nittany Lions' pitching limited the Wilson bats to take the win.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 5, Penn State Harrisburg 10

Venue: Nittany Field

Records: Wilson 14-7, Penn State Harrisburg 19-6

How it Happened:
  • Penn State struck first after a walk followed by a triple in the bottom of the second. The Lions added another in the bottom of the third after a hit-by-pitch RBI.
  • The Phoenix bats began scoring in the top half of the fourth after a productive ground out by Jordan Daphney (Jr., Countryside, Fla. / Countryside) that advanced the runners while knocking home a run. Tyler Smith (Fy., Crofton, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) continued the production after he singled up the middle bringing Jordan McKenzie (Sr., White Plains, Md. / North Point) home.
  • After a scoreless fifth inning Daphney jump started the offense as he ripped a one out double to the right center gap. Smith then lifted Wilson up by two after he blasted a two-run home run to left field.
  • Peyton Taylor (Sr., Worton, Md. / North Point) restarted the brigrade once he singled through the left side. After a throwing error on a Kade Linton stolen base, Taylor came home to score and pushed the lead to three runs.
  • The Lions did not go down quietly after a four run sixth inning put them up by one. The lead was eventually extended in the eighth to lift the Lions to victory.

Inside the Numbers
  • Daphney continued his hot streak by extending his hit streak to five games as he recorded a 1-for-3 day. He collected his sixht double of the season, an RBI, and a walk. He also picked up his sixth stolen base of the year.
  • Smith had an impressive day as well recording a multi-hit day including a homerun, three RBIs, and a walk.
  • Adrian Lugo (Jr., San Juan, Puerto Rico / Manuel Cruz Maceira)  picked up five strikeouts through 5.1 innings.
