(CAMDEN, N.J.) – A low scoring affair took place as Wilson traveled to the Garden State to take on Rutgers-Camden on Monday evening. The Phoenix held a one run lead after six, but the Raptors were able to pull out the win with a two-RBI base hit in the seventh.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 2, Rutgers-Camden 3
Venue: Camden Athletic Complex
Records: Wilson 16-13, Rutgers-Camden 23-12
How It Happened
- The Blue and White opened the scoring in the top of the third with 1-2 combo of Haden Hoff (Sr., Westminster, Md. / Westmisnter) and Harry Middlebrooks (FY, Bel Air, Md. / Archbishop Curley) who have benefitted from each other all season. Hoff singled through the right side and stole second before Middlebrooks legged out an infield single to move Hoff to third. Jordan McKenzie (Sr., White Plains, Md. / North Point) followed with a sacrifice fly before the inning ended on a fielder's choice.
- The Raptors pulled even in the fourth in a similar manner. A pair of hits led off the frame before Billy Richards hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Diego Salazar. Chase Supensky (So., Baltimore, Md. / Towson) was able to get out of the inning with no further damage with strikeouts on the next two batters.
- McKenzie figured into the Phoenix taking the lead once again in the top of the sixth. A base hit to center, a stolen base, and a wild pitch set him up on third base. Jordan Daphney (Jr., Countryside, Fla. / Countryside) did the honors with a base hit to right center for the 2-1 lead.
- Rutgers-Camden was able to come back and gain the lead in the seventh. A base hit and an error allowed the Raptors to have runners on second and third which set up Diego Salazar. He proceeded to get a base hit to left field to score both runners, but was picked off afterwards to end the inning.
- Wilson was able to get runners on in the eighth and ninth in hopes of tying the game, but couldn't get past first base as the Raptors took the win.
Inside The Numbers
- Daphney had a multiple-hit day by going 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Phoenix. Tyler Smith (FY, Crofton, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) also had a pair of hits for the Phoenix on four at-bats.
- Hoff and McKenzie both stole bases on the night to give them 20 combined on the season. Hoff is second on the team with 11.
- Daphney's RBI gives him 30 on the season.
- Supensky started the game and allowed one run on eight hits and a pair of hit batters in 5.0 innings of work. Shane Bowie (Sr., Frederick, Md. / Thomas Johnson) took the tough-luck loss after relieving him. He allowed two unearned runs on four hits and a balk in 3.0 innings.
