(SALISBURY, Md.) – On the heels of defeating a division rival, Wilson ran into a buzz saw in No. 4 Salisbury on Monday afternoon. The Sea Gulls showed why they are one of the top teams in the nation by scoring in every inning in downing the Phoenix.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 2, Salisbury 20 (7 Innings – Weather)
Venue: Williams Stadium
Records: Wilson 16-10, Salisbury 23-6
How It Happened
- Salisbury struck first by scoring on an error in the bottom of the first. Wilson was able to answer its next at-bat as Kodi Deskins (FY, Tampa, Fla. / Clearwater Central Catholic) tied the game on a base hit up the middle to score Jordan McKenzie (Sr., White Plains, Md. / North Point) who led off the frame with a base on balls. However, the Sea Gulls regained the lead in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly. Things quickly went south from there as Salisbury put a five-spot up in the third and added another run in the fourth.
- The Phoenix attempted to regain some ground in the fifth. Deskins led off with another base hit up the middle and moved to third on a Ryan Torres (Jr., Baltimore, Md. / Archbishop Curley) single down the right field line. Two batters later Haden Hoff (Sr., Westminster, Md. / Westminster) drove in Deskins on a ground out to second.
- Salisbury quickly put a halt to the comeback attempt with four more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Eight more followed in the sixth before the game was called after the seventh with inclement weather moving in.
