Phoenix Fly By Bearcats

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – The Wilson women's lacrosse team got back in the win column with a dominating win against visiting St. Vincent on a sunny Wednesday afternoon. The Phoenix received strong play once again from Jill Ahlgren (Sr., Mercersburg, Pa. / Mercersburg) who was a force all over the field, while the defense limited the Bearcats to just 10 shots on the day.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 18, St. Vincent 3

Venue: Kris's Meadow

Records: Wilson 3-1, St. Vincent 0-3
  • The opening of the game had a fast-paced tempo that saw three goals in the first two minutes. Thankfully the first two belonged to the Phoenix as Emily Young (Jr., Fairfax, Va. / Chantilly) won consecutive draw controls that resulted in the Blue and White immediately going down the field and scoring goals. The first belonged to Sadie Fike (FY, McClure, Pa. / Mifflin County) while Anna Gibson (Sr., Cecil County, Md. / Perryville) scored the second.
  • While the Bearcats scored the next goal to make the score 2-1 just 1: 48 into the game, the rest of the quarter belonged to Wilson. Alaina Marek (FY, Bealeton, Va. / Liberty) scored to make it 3-1 before Sage Lague (Jr., Fairplay, Md. / Goretti) and Ahlgren broke the game open with three goals each over the next five minutes. Young added another score to give the Phoenix a 10-1 lead at the end of the first.
  • Wilson kept the pressure on as Ahlgren and Lague scored a pair each to help make the score 15-3 at the half. The Bearcats weren't able to score again until there was 3:44 to go in the third, 39:28 since their previous goal.
  • Gibson, Ahlgren and Lague all scored goals in the fourth to cap the offense for the Phoenix.
Inside The Numbers
  • Ahlgren had another full stat sheet across the board with six goals, three assists, 14 draw controls, six ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
  • Ahlgren's 14 draw controls not only set a new career-high, but it also put her over the century mark for her collegiate career. She now has 109 with 107 as a Phoenix.
  • Lague finished with five goals and an assist for six points. She added two draw controls.
  • Gibson finished with two goals and two assists for four points. Young was right behind her with a goal, two assists, and added four draw controls off the start.
  • Krystal Kienast (Sr., Purcellville, Va. / Loudon Valley) and Kaelyn Goff (FY, Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) split time between the pipes with Kienast starting the game and playing the first half. She made a pair of saves on three shots faced. Goff added four saves on seven shots faced.
