Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | By Logan Smith

Quick Start Leads To Win for Women's Lacrosse

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – The strong start to the season continued for the Wilson women's lacrosse team as it defeated Eastern Mennonite 18-2 on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The Phoenix had one of the best starts in program history with a 10-0 first quarter and were never threatened in the triumph.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 18, Eastern Mennonite 2

Venue: Kris's Meadow

Records: Wilson 4-1, Eastern Mennonite 1-4

How It Happened
  • As has been the case with a few games this year, Wilson won the opening draw and immediately proceeded to goal and scored a goal in a matter of seconds. This time Emily Young (Jr., Fairfax, Va. / Chantilly) and Jill Ahlgren (Sr., Mercersburg, Pa. / Mercersburg) did the honors with Young getting the draw control and provided the assist on Ahlgren's score.
  • Less than 30 seconds later, Sage Lague (Jr., Fairplay, Md. / Goretti) made it 2-0 in favor of the Wilson Blue and White. It was just the start for her as she added four more goals in the frame to help give the Phoenix a 10-0 lead after one period of play.
  • That momentum carried into the second as she scored the opening goal just under four minutes in the quarter. Young and Sadie Fike (Fy., McClure, Pa. / Mifflin County) connected midway through the frame for a 12-0 lead before a free position goal by Young gave Wilson a 13-0 lead headed into halftime.
  • The Royals eventually got on the scoreboard early in the third as Courtney Crawford found the back of the net. She wasn't finished as she added another later in the quarter, but Alaina Marek (FY., Bealeton, Va. / Liberty) and Ahlgren had scored before that to give Wilson a 15-1 lead. Anna Gibson (Sr., Cecil County, Md. / Perryville) added a pair of fourth quarter scores to set up the final.
Inside The Numbers
  • Lague was the top point getter with seven on the day, all of them on goals.
  • Ahlgren remained her strong, consistent self and was nearly unstoppable on both ends of the field. She added a hat trick and three assists for six points offensively, but once again was a defensive nightmare for the opposition with five caused turnovers, six ground balls, and nine draw controls.
  • Gibson and Young both added hat tricks and an assist for four points.
  • Krystal Kienast (Sr., Purcellville, Va. / Loudon Valley) and Kaelyn Goff (FY., Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) weren't called on much, but made three saves combined on seven shots faced.
Up Next
A trip north to Scranton awaits the Phoenix on Tuesday as they take on Marywood. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
