Laubach Scores 11 In Loss At McDaniel

(WESTMINSTER, Md.) – The Wilson women's basketball team opened up the last portion of its non-conference schedule with a trip to McDaniel on Monday afternoon. Leah Laubach (FY, Marietta, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic) scored in double-figures for the fourth time this season, but the Phoenix couldn't overcome a balanced offense by the Green Terror.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 48, McDaniel 88

Venue: Gill Center

Records: Wilson 3-7, 2-1 UE; McDaniel 8-2, 1-1 Centennial

How It Happened
  • Wilson opened the game on solid ground as Jewels Torres (Jr., York, Pa. / West York) and Allie Cullison (Sr., Wesminster, Md. / Winters Mill / Kean) kept the Phoenix even through the first four minutes. The Green Terror then went on a small 6-0 run before Torres added a jumper to close the gap back to four points with 3:46 to go in the opening frame. McDaniel started to pull away once again and led by nine headed to the second. The hosts kept the foot on the gas in the second to lead 45-18 at the half.
  • Mackenzie Caldwell-Degnon (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) and Adrianna Stricek (Jr., Harrisburg, Pa. / Trinity) caught a groove in the third as the duo scored five points each. Laubach found one her self as she reached double-figures overall with six points in the fourth. Chloe Irving (FY, Martinsburg, W.Va. / Martinsburg) contributed five as well. The Green Terror remained too strong, however, and pulled away more in the second half.
Inside The Numbers
  • Laubach finished with 11 points on the day and did most of her damage from the free throw line. She went 7-for-10, but was also solid defensively with four rebounds, three blocks, and a steal.
  • Ten different players scored for the Blue and White.
  • McDaniel was led by a trio of players in double-figures. Elaina Beckett led the way with a game-high 14 points.
Up Next
Wilson will return to action on Wednesday at Hood. Tip-off is set for 11:30 a.m. and will be the last game before the team goes home for break.
