How It Happened
- Wilson opened up the contest on fire and score five-straight points to go up 5-2 in the early stages. Abby Moreland (So., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) and Deah Menedis (Sr., Reisterstown, Md. / Franklin) started out the rally with kills while Moreland added an ace to make it 4-2 during that stretch. Another Moreland strike on an assist from Menedis helped Wilson tie the game at 10-all before Hood went on an 8-1 run to take control. The Phoenix kept fighting and clawed back to within one as a Moreland kill made it 23-22 before Hood finished the set with a kill and an ace from Ann Ofoegbu.
- The Blazers kept momentum and jumped out to a 8-2 start with strong serving that resulted in three aces. Wilson slowly chipped away and used a 6-0 run capped by a Menedis attack to get within three at 19-16 before the hosts regained the advantage and scored the next four points en route to a 2-0 lead.
- Looking to mount a comeback, the Phoenix went point-for-point with seven ties through the first 16 points. An Allyson Garcelon (Jr., Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) ace even put Wilson up 7-6 before Hood tied it on the next play. The Blazers then went on a 6-0 run to put the Phoenix in a hole which proved too difficult to overcome as they secured the sweep.
