(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Wilson's seven-game win streak came to an end as it fell to a talented Lebanon Valley squad on Wednesday afternoon. The Phoenix put up a valiant effort and held the Dutchmen scoreless through the first half, but the visitors were able to score in both second half quarters to take the win.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 0, Lebanon Valley 2
Venue: Wilson Hockey Field
Records: Wilson 8-2, 1-0 UE; Lebanon Valley 10-1, 0-0 MAC
How It Happened
- While it was the Dutchmen that outshot the Phoenix overall in the game, the Blue and White were the first to have a chance to score. Paige Ney (Jr., Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) was able to get off back-to-back shots just over four minutes into the contest, but LVC keeper Ella Weidenhammer halted both attempts.
- Four minutes later the visitors had their first chance at the cage with five nearly point-blank takes, but Erin Sullivan (FY, Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) was impressive and stopped each one within a 15 second span to keep the game scoreless. She added three more saves before the half.
- Midway through the third, LVC eventually got on the scoreboard with a shot by Claire Weidenhammer. The Phoenix nearly pulled even later in the frame as Lizzie Landon (Jr., West Grove, Pa. / Avon Grove) and Ney both had shots that required saves. Brea Kelso (Sr., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) also got in the mix, but a shot out near the circle was blocked.
- The Dutchmen were able to add an insurance goal midway through the fourth. An initial shot by Jenna Angstadt was saved by Sullivan, but LVC kept possession and Sorrell Long found Lauren Foster with a high pass for the 2-0 lead. Wilson battled through the end as Kate Seymour (So., Churchton, Md. / Southern) and Landon both had chances, but Seymour's shot was saved and Landon's take just went wide.
Inside The Numbers
- LVC led the shot chart by a 16-7 margin overall and 12-5 in shots on goal. That was largely the result of the early opportunity the Dutchmen had five shots within a short time frame. Outside of the first quarter, shots were 7-5 overall in favor of LVC.
- Despite the loss, Sullivan played an excellent game and hit double figures with 10 saves in the contest. She now has 24 over the last three games.
- Penalty corners were few and far between. Only three were awarded in the game with the visitors getting one in the first and fourth quarters and Wilson getting one in the third.
