The Basics
Score: Wilson 3, Cedar Crest 1
Venue: FalconPlex
Records: Wilson 9-2, 2-0 UE; Cedar Crest 3-10, 0-2 UE
How It Happened
- Although Cedar Crest got off the first shot, it didn't take the Phoenix long to get the offense moving and they were awarded a penalty corner just 4:13 into the contest. Hailey Steele (Sr., Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) did the honors of inserting the ball before Payton Kendall (Sr., McConnellsburg, Pa. / Forbes Road) found Ney perched in front of the goal who knocked it in for a 1-0 lead.
- Wilson added score about the same time into the second and in in a similar fashion. Once again, the Blue and White forced a penalty corner. Once again Steele put the ball in play and eventually Kate Seymour (So., Churchton, Md. / Southern) stuffed it in after a pass from Ney for a 2-0 lead.
- After the break, the Phoenix were quick to score again out of the gate. Taking possession down near the end line to the right side of the cage, Lizzie Landon (Jr., West Grove, Pa. / Avon Grove) sent in a pinpoint centering pass where Ney was waiting in front of the goal. Ney was able to put it home and it resulted with Wilson up 3-0 just over a minute into the third.
- Despite being down 3-0, Cedar Crest didn't give up and had some chances late in the third. It resulted with the Falcons eventually getting on the board with 21 seconds left on the clock as Avery Daku scored. However, the Wilson back line was able to tighten up the rest of the way and didn't allow a single Falcons shot in the fourth quarter to preserve the win.
Inside The Numbers
- Wilson dominated the shot chart and led Cedar Crest in the category by a 20-5 margin. Of those 16 were on goal for the Blue and White while the Falcons put three on cage. The bulk of Wilson's shots came in the second and fourth quarters where it outshot the hosts 6-0 in each frame.
- Ney's two goals give her 11 on the season while Seymour's is her seventh. The duo ranks first and second, respectively for most goals scored in the conference.
- With all of the offensive pressure, Wilson also led in penalty corners 11-4.
- Erin Sullivan (FY, Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) made two saves on the evening.
