How It Happened
- The Gators came out of the gates blazing with the first four points en route to a 6-1 lead. An Amelia Edens (Sr., Pasadena, Md. / Glen Burnie) kill followed by an ace from Allyson Garcelon (Jr., Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) helped get the Phoenix back within three at 8-5 before a 6-0 run by NDMU started to put the set out of reach.
- While the Gators controlled the first set, Wilson made the second a marathon with an incredible late rally to comeback and serve for the win. Niki Schussler (Sr., Chambersburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Christian) sparked the run with a kill and added a second later to tie the frame at 24-all. A Gators error then gave Wilson a 25-24 lead, but an Emily Gordon kill tied the set once again. Deah Menedis (Sr., Reisterstown, Md. / Franklin) provided a kill for another chance to tie the match at 1-1, but the Gators scored the next three to take the 2-0 advantage.
- After Wilson opened up the third with a kill from Abby Moreland (So., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin), the Gators went on a 7-1 run to take control. An Alison Daniels (Fy., Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) kill got the Blue and White back within one before a 6-0 rally gave NDMU a 15-8 lead. The visitors' lead grew from there as they closed the night with a 7-2 run.
