Fast-Paced Eagles Too Much for Wilson
(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Saint Elizabeth's fast-paced offense and aggressive defense were too much for the Phoenix to handle as Wilson returned to action in a United East match-up. The Phoenix kept the game within striking distance in the first quarter before the Eagles soared away despite Wilson having four in double figures.
Yaya Cannon (Sr., Lancaster, Pa. / Elizabethtown College),
Adriana Stricek (So., Harrisburg, Pa. / Trinity),
Allie Cullison (Jr., Westminster, Md. / Winter Mills), and
Lae Black (So., Laurel, Md. / Meade) would all reach double digits in the points category.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 52, Saint Elizabeth 72
Venue: Gannet Field House
Records: Wilson 7-10, 6-4 Skye; Saint Elizabeth 13-3, 8-1 Skye
How it Happened
- Scoring would begin as Stricek knocked down a free throw before the Eagles began a 6-0 run jumpstarted by a made three. The run would end as Cannon would make a layup in the paint to cut the lead down to three. Black would begin her night of scoring as she would make a lay up of her own to cut the lead down to two. A made jumper by the Eagles would bring the scoring to a close in the first quarter with a final score of 10-6 in the favor of the road team.
- The second quarter was started as Saint Elizabeth picked up four quick points off a fast break that would be answered by a pair of Black free throws. The Eagles then went on a 10-0 run to stretch their lead. Gia Ryan (Fy., Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) would break the run by banging home a three-point attempt that was assisted by Mackenzie Caldwell-Degnon (Fy., Rockville Md. / Richard Montgomery). Ryan would pick up three more points in the next possession with a converted and-one as the clock was under a minute to go in the half.
- The second half opened in a Saint Elizabeth-favorable run that would end as Stricek would knock down two free throws before duplicating the appearance in a following possession. Cullison would hit from deep in the quarter as well to provide the Phoenix with some offense from three-point land.
- The fourth quarter would be the highest scoring frame for Wilson as Cannon picked up another basket on a made fastbreak layup. Cannon and Stricek would trade fast break layups before Cullison would bang home a jumper as her next attempt would be a three pointer to put her in double digit scoring.
