How It Happened
- Wilson didn't waste any time trying to get a leg up on the Defenders as Martin Souza (So., Manassas Park, Va. / Manassas Park) fired off a shot from near the spot in the box, but Defenders netminder Liam Hungate was able to make the save.
- Five minutes later Clarks Summit was able to get its first crack on offense as Joel Funez took a shot to the lower left 90 from outside the box. Logan Neves (Fy., Fredericksburg, Pa. / Colonial Forge) was in solid position with a clear view and made the save.
- The rest of the half was spent mostly with the Phoenix on the attack. Five shots followed in the next 10 minutes alone.- However none of them were on target until Connor Bowers (Sr., Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) had an opening in the 22nd minute. Luis Jimenez (Fy., Carabobo, Venezuela / Taylor Allerdice) also had a prime chance in the 42nd minute that was also saved.
- Perhaps Wilson's best shot came in the 44th minute as Jordan DeVincent (Fy., Eldersburg, Md. / Liberty) took aim from just beyond the left side of the box. His shot got by a leaping Hungate but went off the cross bar and off to the right side.
- The Phoenix kept the pressure up and had four shots early in the second, but only DeVincent's take as on target with Hungate making the save. While Wilson had other chances later, it was the only shot on goal by either team in the frame.
Inside The Numbers
- Wilson outshot the Defenders by a count of 22-6 overall and 5-1 in shots on goal.
- Corner kicks also heavily favored the Phoenix by an 8-2 margin.
- This is the second consecutive scoreless draw between the two squads. Wilson was the last team to score in the series as Bowers found the back of the net in the 88th minute of a 2-1 win on October 16, 2021.
- The clean sheet is the first in the collegiate career for Neves.
