How It Happened
- It didn't take long for the Phoenix to get started as they had a couple early offensive opportunities. The first was called for offsides in the second minute, but the Blue and White made up for it moments later. Jace Williams and Jordan DeVincent (FY, Eldersburg, Md. / Liberty) paired up for a give-and-go in the left corner with Williams providing the boot with the right foot to the bottom right 90 just 5:30 into the game.
- The Gators offense started to generate pressure midway through the half, but a couple of saves by Logan Neves (FY, Fredericksburg, Va. / Colonial Forge) kept the hosts scoreless. That changed on a set piece as a corner kick generated a couple of back-to-back shots. The first resulted in a team save, but the ball remained in the box and Tassilo Lehmkuhl scored the equalizer in the 28th minute. As the half was coming to a close, Lehmkuhl found the back of the net once again to give the Gators the lead.
- Possession was more balance in the second half with urgent play by the Blue and White. Dylan Youmans (Sr., Westminster, Md. / South Carroll) and Landon Howe (FY, Martinsburg, W.Va. / St. Maria Goretti) were able to get off shots midway through, but the Gators' Victor Jaunay made saves on both. Ten minutes later Brian Mulholland (So., Oracle, Ariz. / Canyon del Oro) fired a laser to straightaway center that was also stopped. After a strong counter by Notre Dame that resulted in three more Neves saves.
- Wilson had two great chances in the final five minutes. Youmans had a look to the bottom left that resulted in a Jaunay save in the 87th minute. Two minutes later was the best chance to pull even as Williams beat the goalkeeper, but a defender stopped his shot for the game-tying goal.
Inside The Numbers
- Wilson was outshot in the game 18-9 overall and 12-6 in shots on goal. The difference came in the first half as Notre Dame had 10 shots to Wilson's two. Play was a bit more even in the second with five saves for each team.
- Williams' goal was his second of the season.
- DeVincent's assist was his first point of his college career.
- Neves finished with nine saves on the day, the third-most in a game this year.
- Williams' goal was the fastest scored by the Phoenix since Mulholland scored in just 96 seconds to start the match with Gallaudet last season. It's the eighth fastest in program history.
