(CRESSON, Pa.) – The Wilson women's volleyball team fell in a non-conference affair with Mount Aloysius in three sets on Tuesday evening. The Phoenix were led by
Abby Moreland (Fy., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) who turned in six kills.
The Basics
Scores: Wilson 0, Mount Aloysius 3 (25-10, 25-12, 25-14)
Venue: Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center
Records: Wilson 0-13, Mount Aloysius 4-10
How It Happened
- Wilson got off to an impressive start as kills from Moreland and Deah Menedis (Jr., Reisterstown, Md. / Franklin) helped the Blue and White take a 4-2 lead. Another Menedis point and a bad set by the Mounties helped Wilson stay tied, but a 7-1 run put the hosts in control. The Phoenix were unable to score consecutive points again for the rest of the game as Mount Aloysius took a 1-0 lead.
- The Mounties kept the momentum going in the second as they never trailed in the set. Kills from Moreland and Menedis helped Wilson stay close early, while an Allyson Garcelon (So., Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) strike and a Grace Owens (Fy., Winchester, Va. / James Wood) left the Phoenix down two at 9-7. The Mounties extended their lead with the next five points and Wilson wasn't able to recover as it went down 2-0.
- The third set was the controlled from the start by the Mounties who scored the first seven points. Despite that, the Phoenix chipped away and went on a 4-0 run with a kill from Amelia Edens (Jr., Pasadena, Md. / Glen Burnie) and an ace by Maddie Watson (So., Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Bible) to get within three at 12-9. It was the closest the Phoenix could get though as the Mounties eventually pulled away again.
