(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Abby Moreland (Fy., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) led all players with 14 kills, but Wilson fell to visiting St. Mary's in non-conference play Tuesday evening. The Phoenix got off to a hot start, but the Seahawks were able to rebound and prevail in all three sets.
The Basics
Scores: Wilson 0, St. Mary's 3 (25-21, 25-16, 25-18)
Venue: Gannett Field House
Records: Wilson 0-10, St. Mary's 5-8
How It Happened
- After some back-and-forth play to open up the match, Wilson had perhaps its best stretch of the night winning 11 of 13 points to take a 16-11 lead. Moreland ignited the rally as she scored the first three of those points all on kills. Kills from Deah Menedis (Jr., Reisterstown, Md. / Franklin) and Niki Schussler (Jr., Chambersburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Christian) capped the run before St. Mary's called timeout to regroup. The stoppage proved dividends as the Seahawks eventually tied the set at 18-all and scored 11 of the next 14 points to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Seahawks built upon the momentum and jumped out to a 7-2 lead to start the second. The Phoenix were able to chip away and get within two on various occasions, the last of which was 17-15 following another Moreland attack. Unfortunately St. Mary's went on a 7-0 run to help it close out the second.
- Looking to force a fourth, Wilson kept with the Seahawks at the beginning of the third. Errors helped the Phoenix score three-straight and take a 7-6 lead before three consecutive Moreland kills and another Seahawks error gave Wilson an 11-10 advantage. St. Mary's was then able to go another trademark run with the next six points to take the lead for good. The Blue and White got as close as 21-18 before the visitors scored the next four to end the night.
Inside The Numbers
- For Moreland, the 14 kills easily set a new season-best for the first year player surpassing her previous mark of 10 at McDaniel on Friday. Defensively she was solid as well with 10 digs to record her first double-double of her career.
- Michaela Windisch (Fy., Westminster, Md. / Catoctin) set up the offense with 20 assists on the night. She is third in the Skye Division with 5.84 per set.
- Addie Hebert (Fy., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) remained consistent on the back line with 18 digs on the night, the second-most for her on the season. She is fourth in the conference and third in the Skye Division with 4.65 digs per set.
- Allyson Garcelon (So., Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) played big up front and rejected two Seahawks attacks for solo blocks.
- The Seahawks were led by Arielle Lubeck with eight kills.
