How It Happened (Match 1 vs. Albright)
  • Wilson went back and forth with the Lions and exchanged leads three times in the first nine points. A kill from Maddie Watson (So., Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Mennonite) put the Phoenix up 5-4 before a 4-0 run put the Lions up once again. Kills from Abby Moreland (Fy., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) and Allyson Garcelon (So., Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) kept the Phoenix in the hunt down 12-10, but the visitors started to extend their lead to 19-12 en route to the first set win.
  • The Phoenix came out strong again at the start of the second with another Moreland kill putting the hosts even with Albright at 8-all. The Lions took proceeded to take control of the set with an 8-0 rally, but Wilson didn't give up so easily. The Phoenix were able to get back within three on a couple of occasions thanks to kills from Garcelon and Deah Menedis (Jr., Reisterstown, Md. / Franklin), but Albright was able to seal off a 25-20 victory for the 2-0 lead.
  • Albright jumped out to a large lead in the third and used an 11-1 run to take a 16-5 lead. The Phoenix got back within six, but the Lions closed out the contest with a 4-0 run to complete the sweep.
How It Happened (Match 2 vs. Moravian)
  • Following a lengthy five-set match between Albright and Moravian won by the Lions, Wilson looked to take advantage of the rest. Unfortunately the Greyhounds were a well-oiled machine and scored the first six points of the game en route to a 10-3 lead. Wilson was able to chip away and get back within four thanks to a Watson attack that made it 14-10. A Niki Schussler (Jr., Chambersburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Christian) swing later made it 18-15. It was the closest the Blue and White could get though as Moravian won the first.
  • Wilson started the second on a strong note with a Moreland kill, a Moreland ace, and a Menedis kill propelling the Phoenix to a 3-0 lead. Kills from Garcelon and Menedis later helped them take a 9-4 advantage. An 11-2 run by Moravian eventually flipped the script, and while the Phoenix stayed close, they couldn't get back in front.
  • The third set belonged almost completely to the Greyhounds. Kills from Garcelon and Menedis put Wilson within one at 6-5, but an 18-1 run ended any hopes of a comeback.
Inside The Numbers
  • Moreland and Menedis paced the offense with 14 kills each on the day. Moreland led the team with eight kills against the Lions, while Menedis followed up and did the same against the Greyhounds.
  • Michaela Windisch (Fy., Westminster, Md. / Catoctin) set up the offense and totaled 40 assists on the day.
  • Defensively Addie Hebert (Fy., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) led the Phoenix on the back line. While her streak of double digit digs ended, she still averaged double figures with 20 overall on the day and chalked up 11 in the nightcap.
