(WASHINGTON D.C.) – A late goal by
Ethan Locklear (Fy., White Marsh, Md. / Sparrows Point) gave Wilson its first win of the season as it defeated Gallaudet in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon. The first year midfielder found the back of the net in the 88th minute to put the Phoenix ahead and give them their first non-conference victory since 2019.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 2, Gallaudet 1
Venue: Hotchkiss Field
Records: Wilson 1-5, Gallaudet 0-5
How It Happened
- Wilson struck first in the game and did so early working with a throw in from the firth side. Andrew Bailey (Fy., Mount Airy, Mdi. / Linganore) did the honors and Bryson Curtis (Fy., Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) was on the receiving end, shooting low for a quick lead in just the 13th minute.
- Despite the early goal, defenses played a large roal in the game. Both teams were able to get off only one shot for the rest of the half as the Phoenix put one on target in the 20th minute while the Bison took their only attempt in the 38th minute.
- The second half was a different story. Wilson had the Bison on their heals early in the second kiss, but a shot just over two minutes into the frame was saved by the Bison team with the goalie out of position.
- Gallaudet eventually answered with a score in the 54th minute. Bode Aggas was credited with the goal on a hard shot high that went through the hands of Phoenix netminder Gerson Navarro (Fy., Manassas Park, Va. / Manassas Park).
- Wilson attempted to go ahead multiple times in the second half with solid offensive chances between the 67th and 86th minutes. But as the cliché goes, if at first you don't succeed, try try again, and the Blue and White eventually brok through in the 88th minute. Eric Arbogast (Fy., Duncansville, Pa. / Hollidaysburg) made the assist on the play as he found Locklear able to split the defense. The Wilson backline was able to hold the Bison shotless the rest of the way.
