Balanced Attack Helps Field Hockey Over Ferrum

(FERRUM, Va.) – Wilson increased its win streak to three games as it defeated Ferrum on the road on Saturday afternoon. After a scoreless first half, the Phoenix scored two goals in the third quarter and held on to defeat the Panthers with an insurance goal in the fourth.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 3, Ferrum 1

Venue: Adams Stadium

Records: Wilson 4-1, Ferrum 1-4

How It Happened
  • Wilson had opportunities in the opening frame with four shots, but two were wide, another was blocked, and the fourth was saved. Both teams struggled to find any momentum on offense as both teams managed just one shot each until halftime.
  • After two shots by Ferrum to start the third, Kate Seymour (Fy., Churchton, Md. / Southern) was the first to light up the scoreboard midway through the frame. Five minutes later Paige Ney (So., Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) made it a 2-0 game with Seymour providing the helper.
  • The Panthers didn't go away quietly and eventually scored near the beginning of the fourth. However Jill Ahlgren (Sr., Mercersburg, Pa. / Mercersburg) was able to put the Blue and White back up by two after taking a penalty stroke at the start of the fourth.
Inside The Numbers
  • Ahlgren's penalty stroke goal is her second of the season.
  • Ney continued her hot streak with her fourth goal in the past three games.
  • Seymour's goal and assist was the second consecutive game she tallied both in the same contest. She now has three goals and two assists on the year.
  • Allyson Shindler (Gr., Manchester, Pa. / Northeastern) recorded the win playing the full 60. She made one save and faced four shots on the day.
