(WESTMINSTER, Md.) – The Wilson women's volleyball team had a tough task to open up a three-match weekend as it squared off against host McDaniel on Friday evening. The Phoenix struggled to find a rhythm as the Green Terror took the contest in straight sets.
The Basics
Scores: Wilson 0, McDaniel 3 (25-11, 25-11, 25-10)
Venue: Gill P.E. Learning Center
Records: Wilson 0-7, McDaniel 7-1
How It Happened
- Two kills by Niki Schussler (Jr., Chambersburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Christian) and another by Abby Moreland (Fy., Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) helped the Phoenix stay even with the Green Terror at 3-3 to start the night, but a 10-1 run by McDaniel changed the course of the contest. Wilson wasn't able to string consecutive points together again until it was 21-9 as McDaniel took the first set.
- McDaniel kept the momentum going into the second and led for the duration. The Green Terror opened up the game with the first four points, and while the Phoenix scored three of the next five on kills by Moreland and Deah Menedis (Jr., Reisterstown, Md. / Franlin), they couldn't cut the deficit lower than three.
- Wilson found a spart at the start of the third with a 3-2 lead after a kill and an ace from Moreland. However, McDaniel was quick to rebound and scored the next six points. A Menedis kill closed the deficit to 10-6, but that was as close as the Phoenix would get the rest of the way.
Inside The Numbers
- Moreland had her best match of her rookie season with 10 kills on 26 attacks to lead the Phoenix attack. Michaela Windisch (Fy., Westminster, Md. / Catoctin) set up the offense with 16 assists.
- Defensively Addie Hebert (Fy., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) led the team once again with 11 digs. She's reached double figures in every match this season and is just four shy of 100 for the season.
- Kenzie Mitchell led the Green Terror with a match-high 15 kills.
