Chambersburg, Pa. - The Wilson College women's soccer team faced off against the Hood College Blazers in their season opener on Friday afternoon. The Blazers led the Phoenix with a final score of 4-2.

How It Happened
- First year Annie Smith (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) and senior Katie Riley (Mt. Airy, Md. / Urbana) both gained two shots to start off the match for the Phoenix in the first half, but neither found their way to the back of the net. Junior Rebecca Marakovitz (New Market, Md. / Linganore) secured five saves for the Phoenix to keep the game scoreless heading into the second half.
- The Phoenix started off the second half with a goal from Halley Shaffer (So., Sunbury, Pa. / Line Mountain) assisted by Maddy Miller in the early minutes. The Blazers were quick to strike back and eventually took the lead on scores in the 62nd and 65th minutes.
- Shaffer kept the Phoenix in the contest and tied the game with an assist from Smith just moments afterwards in the 69th minute, but the Blazers kept the pressure on and netted two goals to finalize the game at 4-2.

- Marakovitz and Erin Roszkowiak (Jr., Cinnaminson, N.J. / Cinnamonson) finished with eight combined saves against 15 shots.
