(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – The Wilson women's lacrosse team set a few program records with a win over Trinity Washington on Monday. Perhaps the most important was that it is the seventh win of the season giving the Phoenix the most victories in a single year in program history.
In addition to that, the Phoenix also set new program marks for most goals scored in a single game and largest margin of victory with the triumph over the Tigers.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 23, Trinity 0
Venue: Kris's Meadow
Records: Wilson 7-3, Trinity 0-4
How It Happened
- The scoring took place early and often as Wilson controlled the tempo for the duration of the game. Jill Ahlgren (Jr., Mercersburg, Pa. / Mercersburg) won the opening draw, one of 10 she had on the afternoon, and Emily Young (So., Fairfax, Va. / Chantilly) scored shortly after on an assist from Ahlgren after the Phoenix went through their motions. It was a sign of things to come as five different players combined to score 10 goals in the period headlined by Paige Reynolds (Sr., Keedysville, Md. / Boonsboro) with a hat trick. Jordan Hastie (So., Frederick, Md. / Governor Thomas Johnson), Marissa Eisenhauer (Jr., Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls), and Hope Sanders (So., Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford) also found the scoring column.
- Ahlgren eventually scored herself with a pair of goals in the second quarter. Delaney Fulfer (Jr., Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle) added her second goal of the season while a pair of Sage Lague (So., Fairplay, Md. / Goretti) scores gave Wilson a 15-0 lead at the half.
- Odessa Kalathas (Sr., Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) and Zoe Bemusdaffer (Fy., Frederick, Md. / Walkersville) scored their first goals of the season to open the offense in the second half. Fulfer and Hastie then followed with their second goals of the game.
- Kelly Lepouski (Sr., Millville, N.J. / Millville), Anna Gibson (Jr., Cecil County, Md. / Perryville), Saskia Willut (Jr., Woodbridge, Va. / Charles Colgan) and Kenna Shearer (Jr., Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) all scored in the fourth to set up the final score.
Inside The Numbers
- The shutout is the first in program history for the Phoenix. The closest they came before to a clean sheet was a 10-1 victory, also against Trinity, on April 15, 2009.
- Wilson caused nine turnovers on the day and didn't allow the Tigers to successfully clear any of the 10 attempts they had. Hastie and Gibson were responsible for causing two turnovers each, while Megan Simms (Sr., Frederick, Md. / Governor Thomas Johnson) picked up a game-high five ground balls.
- Fourteen different Phoenix scored goals on the day. Six of them accounted for 12 assists.
- Wilson was a perfect 3-for-3 on free position shots with Eisenhauer, Lague and Shearer all scoring from the eight meter mark.
Up Next
With non-conference play now complete, the Phoenix turns their attention to CSAC play. They will have a while to prep for it as they won't return to action until Wednesday, April 12, when they travel to Sweet Briar, Virginia, to take on the Vixens.
