(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Wilson opened up its CSAC series with Clarks Summit with a sweep in the twin bill by winning both games in dominant fashion. The Phoenix scored runs in all but three of the innings they batted on the day while outscoring the Defenders by a combined score of 29-4.

Game 2 – Wilson 21, Clarks Summit 1

How It Happened (Game 1)
  • Garrett Griebel (Fy., Kent Island, Md. / Kent Island) provided the first run for the Phoenix as he scored on a Gerald Buchanan (Gr., Olney, Md. / Montgomery) base hit through the left side in the bottom of the first. Wilson had an opportunity to do more damage, but left the bases full.
  • Wilson was able to extend its lead three innings later as Doc Daniels (So., Deal Island, Md. / Crisfield) circled the bases to make it 2-0. After reaching on an infield single, stealing second and going to third on a wild pitch, a grounder by Jack Pachella (Fy., Wayne, Pa. / Radnor) allowed him to advance the final 90.
  • One inning later, the Phoenix were able to add three more. Buchanan chalked up another RBI as he singled to right center to score Jordan McKenzie (Jr., White Plains, Md. / Southern Maryland). Two batters later, Daniels doubled to center to score Buchanan and Alex Seidleck (So., Crownsville, Md. / Indian Creek).
  • The Defenders mounted their best offensive chance of the day in the top of the sixth with three runs on five hits, but Wilson balanced that out in the bottom of the from by way of a McKenzie home run to left field that also scored Pachella and Griebel which set up the final score.
How It Happened (Game 2)
  • The Phoenix bats remained hot in the second game as four hits and an error led to a 4-0 lead for the hosts. Buchanan doubled to left center to bring in the first two while a double by Daniels added another run. Brady Andre (Jr., Brookeville, Md. / Sherwood) capped the scoring in the frame with a base hit up the middle.
  • Seidleck extended the lead with a two-RBI single up the middle in the second. Daniels added another run with a base hit through the left side one batter later.
  • The flood gates opened in the bottom of the third as Wilson put up a 10-spot on eight hits. McKenzie and Griebel brought in two runs each with triples to highlight the inning.
  • Extra base hits remained the theme in the next inning as well as Wilson homered twice to take a 20-1 lead. Daniels opened up the aerial attack as he left the park on a shot to left field. After a triple by Andre, Kade Linton (Fy., Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) got into the long ball action with a round trip over the left field fence as well.
  • Justin Fleig (Jr., Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) capped the scoring for the Phoenix in the sixth inning. Pachella led off the frame with a double to center and moved to third on a ground out before Fleig's base hit to left allowed him to score.
Inside The Numbers
  • Chris Baumann (So., Snow Hill, Md. / Snow Hill) got the start in Game 1 for the Blue and White and did not disappoint as he matched his longest outing of the season with six innings of work. In the process he struck out nine batters to match a season-high. With the win he improved to 7-0 on the campaign.
  • Brayden Stutzman (Fy., Mt. Airy, Md. / South Carroll) took the hill to start the nightcap and also had a solid start. He struck out six and allowed just three hits in four innings to improve to 3-1.
  • The rest of the battery pitched effectively to close out the rest of the game for the Phoenix. Ben Tunnell (Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla. / Lakewood) and Ben Looper (Sr., Columbia, Md. / Oakland Hills) each struck out a batter while Orlando Estevez (Gr., Key West, Fla. / Key West) retired three on strikes in the seventh to end the game.
  • Daniels had a splendid day on the offensive end as he went a combined 6-for-8 with six RBI and four runs scored. He was 4-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored in Game 2 alone.
  • Griebel also had a four-hit game as he was 4-for-4 in Game 2. He tallied three RBI and scored four by himself.
  • McKenzie went a combined 5-for-8 with six RBI and four runs scored on the day. His home run in the opener gave him eight for the season, tied for most in the CSAC.
