(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – It was a tale of two halves that felt like a tale of two games as Wilson was defeated by Bryn Athyn on Saturday afternoon. The Lions opened up a big lead to start the game that ultimately propelled them to the win, but the Phoenix were able to make adjustments after halftime and a lengthy lightning delay to play a strong second half.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 7, Bryn Athyn 14
Venue: Kris's Meadow
Records: Wilson 9-4, 2-1 CSAC; Bryn Athyn 7-2, 2-0 CSAC
How It Happened
- Wilson had the opportunity to strike first and had a pair of good looks, but both shots ended up going just wide in the first three minutes. The Lions were able to counter and scored the first goal of the game 4:19 into the contest. After winning the ensuing draw control, the Phoenix again had a couple of shots, but again both were off the mark. The Lions once again were able to counter and took advantage of an free position attempt to take a 2-0 lead. The score remained there until the final minute when Bryn Athyn scored another goal from the eight-meter mark. The Lions followed up by winning the draw and went down to make the score 4-0 with 34 seconds left in the first.
- Bryn Athyn continued to build its lead in the second, eventually going up 8-0 with 7:08 to go in the half. Sage Lague (So., Fairplay, Md. / Goretti) eventually put the Phoenix on the board as she penetrated the defense and scored with 2:58 to go before the halftime break.
- The second half started with no scoring before lightning rolled through the area and delayed the game four over two hours. After the game resumed, Wilson looked like a new team and scored a pair of goals right off the bat. Anna Gibson (Jr., Cecil County, Md. / Perryville) provided the first on an assist from Paige Reynolds (Sr., Keedysville, Md. / Boonsboro) less than two minutes after play resumed. Lague added another just 1:15 after that.
- Bryn Athyn was able to answer and scored the next three to take an 11-3 lead with the last two coming on player-up opportunities. Wilson received a player-up chance as well just after that and took advantage of the extra player as Gibson scored her second on a helper from Hope Sanders (So., Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford) two seconds before the end of the third.
- Gibson connected with Jill Ahlgren (Jr., Mercersburg, Pa. / Mercersburg) to start the scoring in the fourth, but the Lions came back with the next two goals to make the score 13-5. Ahlgren and Gibson both added goals after that before the Lions set the final score with the final goal.
Inside The Numbers

- Both of the aforementioned helped Wilson dominate the draws by a 17-7 margin. Ahlgren was one short of double digits while Lague picked up seven.
- Ahlgren was once again strong on the defensive side as she picked up four ground balls. She added a caused turnover as well.
- Morgan Melucci (Fy., Hanover, Pa. / South Western) played the second half in goal and was strong between the pipes with eight saves for a new season-high.
