How It Happened
- Wilson started the scoring early as it took advantage of a Keystone turnover caused by Anna Gibson (Jr., Cecil County, Md. / Perryville). Gibson later set up the first goal as she found Jill Ahlgren (Jr., Mercersburg, Pa. / Mercersburg) for the score 1:58 into the game. It took the Phoenix just 32 seconds to score the next goal as Emily Young (So., Fairfax, Va. / Chantilly) won the draw and Paige Reynolds (Sr., Keedysville, Md. / Boonsboro) found the back of the net on a feed from Sage Lague (So., Fairplay, Md. / Goretti). Gibson was a figure in the next two goals as she scored the next one and assisted Jordan Hastie (So., Frederick, Md. / Governor Thomas Johnson) who made it 4-0 midway through the first. A goal by Lague and two scores by Hope Sanders (So., Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford) gave Wilson a 7-0 lead at the end of one.
- Keystone eventually got on the board in the second quarter after winning the draw and going down to score 44 seconds into the period. The Phoenix didn't allow the Giants to build up any momentum though as Ahlgren answered with her second of the game. Gibson and Reynolds both added goals to put the Blue and White up 10-1 at the break.
- The second half started similar to the first with a pair of early Phoenix goals. Ahlgren made it 11-1 just 2:17 into the half and Gibson scored her third of the game 91 seconds later. The Giants answered well and cut the deficit back down to single digits with the next two goals, but Young followed up with a goal on an assist from Ahlgren for a 13-3 lead with 3:04 left in the third.
- Gibson and Young scored within the first 2:30 of the fourth on assists from Reynolds to put Wilson up 12. Outside of a Keystone goal with five minutes left, the Phoenix went unscathed the rest of the way.
Inside The Numbers
- Gibson had another full stat line as she paced the offense with seven points on four goals and three assists. She has now scored a hat trick in the last four games and at least four points in the last eight.
- Reynolds and Lague both had five points on two goals and three assists. Lague tallied five draw controls and picked up four ground balls, while Reynolds caused three turnovers and picked up two ground balls.
- Ahlgren was also active all over the field. Offensively she scored three goals and an assist for four points. Defensively she led the team with seven ground balls. Additionally she won a game-high seven draw controls. The first one of the day gave her 100 for the season.
- Krystal Kienast (Jr., Purcellville, Va. / Loudon Valley) started the game between the pipes for the Phoenix and made seven saves and allowed just one goal to record the win. Morgan Melucci (Fy., Hanover, Pa. / South Western) relieved her for the second half and made five more saves against three goals.
Up Next
A big game awaits the Phoenix for the regular season finale. They'll host Notre Dame for Senior Day with an 11 a.m. start on Saturday. A win will allow Wilson to host a CSAC Tournament semifinal game next week.
