Phoenix Fly By Falcons, Win Fourth-Straight

(ALLENTOWN, Pa.) – Wilson extended its win streak to four games as it defeated hosting Cedar Crest in CSAC action on Tuesday evening. As a result, the Phoenix guaranteed its first winning season in program history.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 17, Cedar Crest 1

Venue: The FalconPlex

Records: Wilson 9-3, 2-0 CSAC; Cedar Crest 3-5, 0-2 CSAC

How It Happened
  • The Phoenix got off to a rapid start once again and remained in control the rest of the way. Although the Falcons won the opening draw, the Phoenix avoided any damage and went down to eventually score on a shot by Emily Young (So., Fairfax, Va. / Chantilly) with an assist from Anna Gibson (Jr., Cecil County, Md. / Perryville). Free position goals eventually followed as Jill Ahlgren (Jr., Mercersburg, Pa. / Mercersburg) scored a pair and Gibson added another. Gibson reached a hat trick by the end of the first with two more goals while Sage Lague (So., Fairplay, Md. / Goretti) also found the back of the net to give Wilson a 7-0 lead after one period of play.
  • The second quarter saw the Blue and White extend their lead to 9-0 on goals by Young and Gibson with Hope Sanders (So., Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford) providing assists on both. The Falcons eventually got on the board and avoided the shutout as Maddie Graham scored with 4:33 left in the half. The Phoenix were able to get that goal back as Gibson scored her fifth of the day on a dish from Lague before Ahlgren put Wilson up 11-1 right before the half.
  • Ahlgren and Young both scored in the third to put the Phoenix up 12. Ahlgren added another pair in the fourth before Kelly Lepouski (Sr., Millville, N.J. / Millville) scored just her second career goal to make it 16-1. Young set up the final score on a goal with 1:32 left in the game.
Inside The Numbers
  • Ahlgren scored six goals and two assists for eight points on the night. It's the fourth time this season she's scored at least six goals and fifth time she's tallied at least eight points.
  • While the offensive numbers were impressive, Ahlgren's defensive numbers were colossal. The NCAA's overall leader in caused turnovers per game at 4.36 more than doubled that with nine, one shy of the NCAA single game high this year. She added 12 ground balls, also a career-high along with caused turnovers, and chalked up 10 draw controls, the sixth time she's hit double digits in the category this year.
  • Gibson continued her robust play as of late with four goals and four assists for eight points to match a career high set earlier this season at Eastern Mennonite. It's the sixth consecutive game she's scored at least five points. She's tallied at least six in five of the last six.
  • Young had a career day as she scored a career-high seven points. Five of them were on goals to match a career-high set last year at Centenary.
  • Wilson outshot the Falcons 34-2. Cedar Crest was held without a shot for the entirety of the second half. Krystal Kienast (Jr., Purcellville, Va. / Loudon Valley) made the save on one of them and recorded the win in goal.
  • In its current four game win streak, Wilson has outscored its opponents 74-3.
