The Basics
Score: Wilson 12, Lancaster Bible 1
Venue: Kris's Meadow
Records: Wilson 6-3, Lancaster Bible 2-6
How It Happened
- Wilson didn't waste any time getting the offensive wheels turning as Jill Ahlgren (Jr., Mercersburg, Pa. / Mercersburg) took the opening draw and went down the field resulting in a shot by Anna Gibson (Jr., Cecil County, Md. / Perryville). It went wide, but Sage Lague (So., Fairplay, Md. / Goretti) forced a Chargers turnover on their clear attempt and recovered the ground ball which transitioned into a goal by Paige Reynolds (Sr., Keedysville, Md. / Boonsboro) on an assist from Gibson 2:16 into the contest. Ahlgren made it 2-0 just a few minutes later on an assist from Emily Young (So., Fairfax, Va. / Chantilly).
- The Chargers answered midway through the frame as Katelynn Perrotta was able to dodge the defense and score, but Wilson bounced right back as Jordan Hastie (So., Frederick, Md. / Governor Thomas Johnson) won the draw and Gibson scored her first goal of the game. She added another on a helper from Ahlgren and dished out an assist herself again to Young who scored with just over five minutes left to make the score 5-1.
- From there, it was a largely defensive game with just seven goals scored across the last 45 minutes. Thankfully they all belonged to the Blue and White. Reynolds tallied the only goal in the second quarter to give Wilson a 6-1 lead at the half, while Gibson continued her incredible day with an assist to Ahlgren and scored on a fast break thanks to a nice dish from Lague for a goal with 17 seconds left in the third to lead 8-1.
- The dominance continued in the fourth as a yellow card led to a player up goal by Reynolds. She'd add another later between goals by Lague and Ahlgren to set up the final.
Inside The Numbers
- Wilson outshot LBC 28-8 in the game. The Chargers were limited to just one shot in the first and two in the second and fourth.
- Gibson paced the offense with seven points on a hat trick and four assists. Ahlgren added five points on a hat trick and two assists. Reynolds joined the duo with four goals.
- Ahlgren once again put up big numbers defensively with nine ground balls and five caused turnovers.
- Ahlgren was also dominant off the start with 10 draw controls, helping the Phoenix lead the category 15-1 against the Chargers.
- Krystal Kienast (Jr., Purcellville, Va. / Loudon Valley) was solid between the pipes as she made five saves for a save percentage of .833 on eight shots faced.
- Lague also put up strong defensive numbers with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Kelly Lepouski (Sr., Millville, N.J. / Millville) added three ground balls for the Phoenix.
