How It Happened (Game 1)
- The Phoenix got the early jump on the Lions as they put up a four-spot in the second inning. Claudia Umbrell (Gr., Willow Hill, Pa. / Fannett Metal) sparked the rally with a double to center to score Addyson Stewart (Fy., Felton, Del. / Lake Forest) and Haley Privett (Jr., Fayatteville, Pa. / Chambersburg Magnet). After Madison Knerr (Fy., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) came in to pinch run, she scored on another double, this time by Alyssa Wenger (Jr., Chambuersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) who sent a pitch to center. Haiden Brookens (Jr., Fayetteville, Pa. / Chambersburg Magnet) followed with a single to center to bring in Wenger.
- The hosts scored solo runs in the bottoms of the second and third before Wilson was able to score again in the top of the fourth. Another extra base hit, this time by Riley Henry (So., Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle), allowed Wenger to score again.
- Hazleton was quick to respond and used a three-run homer to tie the game. The score stayed dormant from there until the seventh inning.
- Wilson was down to its last out before Stewart singled to left to get the Phoenix on the base paths. From there the Phoenix were issued three consecutive walks to Privett, Miley, and finally Makenna Snodgrass (Sr., Flagstaff, Ariz. / Flagstaff) to score the go-ahead run. Snodgrass then promptly retired the side in the bottom of the frame all via strikeouts to end the game.
How It Happened (Game 2)
- Wilson didn't waste any time getting the offense going in the second game. Wenger led off with a walk, stole second, and then scored as Brookens lined a double to center for the first run of the game. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, Steward was issued a base on balls to bring in Brookens for the 2-0 lead.
- The Phoenix eventually added insurance runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Kaesey Greene (Sr., Taneytown, Md. / Francis Scott Key) brought in the first of those with a single to center that scored Amelia Edens (So., Pasadena, Md. / Glen Burnie). Privett knocked in the next one with a single to left that scored Madison Knerr (Fy., Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) who recorded her first collegiate hit earlier in the frame. Henry then made it 5-0 with a base hit to left to score Wenger.
- The Nittany Lions attempted to come back in the bottom of the seventh with two of their three hits and a pair of fielder's choices plating their only run. However Dill was able to get the next batter out on strikes to end the game.
Inside The Numbers
- Privett and Brookens had spectacular days at the plate as both of them recorded multiple hits in both games. Overall Privett went 4-for-7 with a run and an RBI while Brookens was 4-for-8 with two RBI and a run.
- Dill improved to 3-3 on the season with her complete game performance. She allowed the one run on just three hits and one walk with six strikeouts.
- Brookens has now recorded multiple-hit games in five of the last seven games.
- Privett is currently on a four-game hit streak dating back to the last two games of spring break. She is 6-for-8 with eight RBI and three runs scored during that stretch.
- Wenger is also on a four-game hit streak and has been a key source of run production for the Blue and Black. She has scored in six-straight games with 11 runs over that time.
- Snodgrass recorded the win in Game 1 in a relief effort where she could barely be touched. She went the final three frames and allowed just three hits while striking out seven in the process to move to 2-0.
