The Basics
Score: Wilson 16, Eastern 12
Venue: Kris's Meadow
Records: Wilson 1-0, Eastern 0-2
How It Happened
- The Eagles had the momentum early as they took the opening draw and scored 59 seconds into the contest. They built up a 3-0 lead before Anna Gibson (Jr., Cecil County, Md. / Perryville) lit up the scoreboard for Wilson for the first time with 8:32 left in the first. Approximately a minute later Ahlgren chalked up her first assist as she found Paige Reynolds (Sr., Keedysville, Md. / Boonsboro) to make it 3-2. Eastern answered with the next two goals before Wilson closed the frame with a pair of Ahlgren goals.
- The second quarter was the turning point as the Phoenix offense exploded four seven goals. Ahlgren added her third to tie it up shortly off the draw and Emily Young (So., Fairfax, Va. / Chantilly) followed with an Ahlgren helper to put Wilson in front for the first time. Reynolds and Young added goals before Eastern scored its only goal of the frame to make it 8-6. Gibson, Sage Lague (So., Fairplay, Md. / Goretti), and Ahlgren all provided goals to send Wilson into the halftime break up 11-6.
- Another Reynolds goal put Wilson up 12-6 before the Eagles responded with two goals at the start of the third. Wilson eventually got back on the board before the Eagles closed the quarter with another pair of goals to trail by three heading to the fourth.
- Eastern further cut the deficit to two at the start of the fourth before Gibson scored to make it 14-11 midway through the period. Eastern scored the next goal, but could get no closer as Ahlgren took advantage of a free position attempt with a goal and added another with 2:30 left to set the final score.
Inside The Numbers
- Ahlgren's seven-goal, three assist performance set new program marks for goals and points in a game. She also led the game with seven draw controls and caused two turnovers.
- Reynolds, Gibson and Young all had multiple goal games as well with Gibson and Reynolds picking up hat tricks.
- Delaney Fulfer (Jr., Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle) recorded the win in goal after starting the game and playing the first half. She made eight saves on 16 shots faced. Morgan Melucci (Fy., Hanover, Pa. / South Western) played the second half and nearly equaled her with seven saves.
