How It Happened
- As one would expect with any competition that needs extra frames, this contest was anything but routine. Although the Phoenix were quick off the start with a Smith triple and a bucket by Ibraheem Bundu (Sr., Bowie, Md. / Largo / CCBC Dundalk), the Ravens answered with a 12-2 run to take the lead. A Bundu dunk eventually tied the game at 16-all midway through the first half, but the hosts closed with a 12-5 run to take a 28-21 lead into the locker room at the break.
- A layup at the start of the second gave Rosemont a nine-point advantage, its largest of the game. However Smith was able to start the comeback rally with another trey, his third of the game. It was a sign of things to come as Wilson's next two field goals were also made by Smith from range. Ethan Wilson made it four consecutive as his 3-pointer put the Phoenix back within a possession and set the score at 36-33 with 14:06 to go in the second.
- A 6-0 run, Wilson's largest of the game, built on layups from Gary Robertson (Sr., Washington D.C. / Potomac / Bryant & Stratton), Khalif Dickson (Sr., Hampton, Va. / Prince George / Eastern), and Garib eventually put Wilson back in front 45-43. It set up a showdown down the stretch that didn't see either team hold a lead of more than four for the final 8:50. The Phoenix ended up with the final lead of the half on a triple by Ethan Wilson, with 1:20 to go, but a Kelton Warren dunk tied the game for the Ravens with 44 ticks left to give fans bonus basketball.
- The first overtime started out as a 3-point contest with the Ravens scoring the first before Ethan Wilson and Garib followed with triples of their own to put the Phoenix in front. Consecutive layups by Rosemont put the hosts back in front before a Garib free throw forced a second OT.
- Garib started the second overtime with an unconventional three-point play after he was fouled on a layup 20 seconds in. The Phoenix stayed in front the rest of the way. Garib added two more buckets to put Wilson up five with 89 seconds left and eventually created more separation from the charity stripe after the Ravens were forced to foul.
Inside The Numbers
- Ethan Wilson's 28 came from every which way. Most of it came from the foul line where he was 15-of-18. Additionally, three of his five field goals came from behind the arc. It's the second time he's hit the 20-point plateau in the last three games. He was also strong on the glass with seven rebounds.
- Smith easily had his best game thus far this season with 21 points on seven triples. He now has a dozen treys over the last three games.
- Ethan Wilson and Garib comprised of a lethal two-headed monster on overtime as they provided all the points for the Phoenix during the extra 10 minutes of action. Garib did most of his damage in the entire game during that time as he was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and 5-for-8 from the line. Ethan Wilson made his only field goal attempt on a 3-pointer and went 8-for-10 on free throws for 11.
- Garib was also a force on the glass where he took game-high honors with 14 rebounds. He was also a key distributor of the ball as he led the team with six assists.
- Bundu put together a solid outing as he finished with eight points after he went 4-for-6 from the field. He provided trouble underneath for the Ravens as well with three blocks on the night.'
- The Ravens outscored the Phoenix in the paint 46-26, but Wilson was able to make it up from the outside where it made 11 3-pointers, the second time this season it reached double-digit makes behind the arc, and the free throw line where it was 21-of-29. Conversely the Ravens were 8-of-12 at the stripe.
For The Ravens
- The hosts were led by a quartet of double-figure scorers. Dejuan Taylor led the way with a double-double after he went 8-for-13 for 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Denelle Holly dropped in a baker's dozen, while both Jared Sullivan and Zaki Gomez secured an even 10.
