(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Senior Night was a success for the Wilson women's volleyball team as it swept Valley Forge on Saturday. The Phoenix used a balanced attack that featured five players with at least four kills, one of which was Anna Householder (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) who was honored before the game as the lone senior on the team.

Venue: Gannett Memorial Field House

Records: Wilson 2-21, 2-4 Skye; Valley Forge 2-17, 0-7 Skye

How It Happened
  • The night started out equitable on both sides as they split the first 10 points. At that point the Phoenix took charge and went on their largest run of the season and scored the next 13 points. A kill from Niki Schussler (Jr., Chambersburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Christian) and two more from Abby Moreland (FY, Sabillasville, Md. / Catoctin) Michaela Windisch (FY, Westminster, Md. / Catoctin) Grace Owens (FY, Winchester, Va. / James Wood) Maddie Watson (So., Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Mennonite) Wilson was able to spread the wealth around the rest of the set as Householder, Deah Menedis (Jr., Reisterstown, Md. / Franklin) and Addie Hebert (FY, Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) also provided kills en route to the 1-0 lead.
  • On the heels of their largest run of the season, the Phoenix built upon that foundation with their best start to a game of the season and jumped out to a 12-0 lead to start the second. Errors plagued the Patriots early while Windisch served up a pair of aces and added a kill to make the score 8-0. Menedis tallied another kill while Windisch aced two more serves to make it 12-0. Valley Forge followed with the next four points, but the Blue and White were quick to build a double digit advantage once again. This time Menedis provided a kill and an ace to go up 15-4. After a Valley Forge point, Amelia Edens (Jr., Pasadena, Md. / Glen Burnie) got in on the action with a klll followed by a Hebert ace and a Householder kill. Wilson ended the set on a 5-0 run.
  • Valley Forge's best set came in the third. Teams went back-and-forth throughout as the frame featured 12 ties and eight lead changes. The Patriots led 18-15 after a Ruby Hall kill and a pair of Phoenix misses, but Wilson countered with a 5-0 run built on three Schussler kills to flip the script. The Patriots were able to get the next point before Wilson finished the night on another 5-0 run capped by a Watson attack.
Inside The Numbers
  • Eight different Phoenix registered kills for the Blue and White with Schussler leading the charge with nine. She did so on 19 attempts with just three errors for a season best hitting percentage of .316. It was her best average since hitting 375 at Dickinson on September 30 last season.
  • Menedis followed with seven kills while hitting .267 for the night equaling her average at Penn State-Abington to start the month.
  • Watson and Moreland both chalked up six kills while hitting .400 and .308, respectively. Householder added four to give her a new career-high.
  • Windisch stayed busy with 30 assists on the night for a new season-best in three-set matches. She also led the team serving as she was responsible for four of the nine Wilson aces.
  • Hebert stayed busy on the defensive back line with as the only player for either team to reach double figures and did so with 21. It was her second-most in three set matches.
  • It's the first time the Phoenix have had at least eight different player register a kill since October 15, 2021 in a four-set match with Penn State-Mont Alto. It's the first time in three-set matches since before the 2016 season.
